We started the week by writing in our thinking journals. We used pictures to draw and letters and swirls to write about what we did over the winter break. We were excited to share with our friends our highlights. We visited the learning commons and signed out books for the first time as well with the help of our Librarian, Mrs. Keall. All students got their own library bag, a browsing stick and chose one book of their choice. Students were excited to share the books with their families and we are looking forward to visiting the Learning Commons every week! We also learned a new math game we call, "Dots and Shapes!" In this game, we take turns rolling a die with our partner and drawing different shapes. Along with reinforcing counting and one-to-one correspondance, this game helps us subitize unfamiliar and familiar groups. We were introduced to the story "The Mitten" by Jim Aylesworth, adapted from a Ukrainian folktale. Through this story, we are beginning to talk about different animals and what changes they go through during different seasons. We explored new centers as well such as our new animal center, our dollhouse center and many other games and building centers as well. Ask your child to share what centers they enjoyed most after coming back!
Kindergarten students will be participating in a Scientists in School experience next week. Please check your emails if you are able to volunteer.
Thank you!
